What Ever Happened To Jimmy Pozin?

Jimmy Pozin. One of the oldest 3dmmers in the community. The man responsible for the classic film "Litterbug". The man who, in January 2000, released "Litterbug 2 unfinished", which was LIGHT YEARS ahead of anything by Redwampa, Maltby, or Pikios. The man that has released classics. The name speaks for itself.

Then, Jimmy marked his return to the community. After seeing his movie "Grim Demise", I could only come to the conclusion that someone was playing a sick joke. But his new movie, Ragtag Group Of Rebelz, proved me wrong. Way wrong, baby.

Upon seeing the preview for this movie, I commented on how it looked... well, bad. The animation wasn't particularly good in the preview, and the movie looked very, very stupid. Jimmy seemed to be getting stupid. And when it took 5 tries for him to actually send the movie to me, I could only guess the worst.

I was very, very wrong.

A Ragtag Group Of Rebelz

Ragtag Group Of Rebelz is a movie that is quite simplistic. The version I have seen is a rough cut, one that Jimmy has sent to people for suggestions, which I'll cover here. This movie is far from perfect, but it'll make you drool at how godly Pozin is at 3dmm.

The movie is about some rebels. These rebels want to do something to the USA. The plot keeps changing throughout the movie, which annoyed me. Anyways, this rebels start attacking U.S soldiers. Unfortunately, this is the desert, therefore the scenes are very basic and offer very little thrill at first. After a few scenes of lame animation, comes the drool factor of the movie.

The battle scene is simply amazing. Amazing. Fucking amazing. I had to repeat it. I just had to repeat the fact that it is AMAZING. People, this is arguably THE best action movie ever done in 3dmm. Jimmy Pozin is a goddamn genius and he better win a 3dmm.com Award at the end of the year. I'll be damned if this veteran loses to Will Maltby or something. The man has enough awards, it's Jimmy time. As you know, I'm an overly pessimistic person, so if I'm telling you that this movie is amazing, it IS amazing.

Everything is done to perfection. From countless moving and rotating cameras, to bullets flying everywhere. From the footsteps splattering mud to the bullets bouncing off, this is simply breathtaking. I know that I'll be keeping this baby in my hard drive for a LONG time so I can model the last scenes of my war movie after this. Everything is done to perfection here. Now, the effects aren't completely smooth, but the pure adrenaline in the scenes takes care of that little mistake. This movie is so intense that it is simply amazing.

And after that ends, you'll say to yourself "Wow". This is indeed marvelous. And the things that come next.... they're simply the most brilliant display of effects, music, sound, and emotion that I have ever seen. Ever. This is a 3dmmer's wet dream.

Suffice to say that I will hunt you down and beat you with a stick if you don't download this movie in the day it's released. In fact, I'll blatantly insult anyone who doesn't post comments about this work of art the day it's released.

The Maltby Factor

I can see the criticism against this movie. Calling it the Maltby factor is obviously unfair to Maltby, but I'm just using the name because he's one of the more active pursuers of this movie flaw. That is, of course, the smoothness of the rotating camera. I am a perfectionist, but I also know about real directing, and let me tell you, Pozin is DIRECTING here. This isn't to show off. These scenes attain a level of drama that is mind-bending. This is truly a work of art. This review is bordering on ass-kissing right now, but trust me, you'll be in the same state of mind after you watch this.

The.... Bad Things

Every movie has to have it's flaws, of course. And these one has 'em. A whole bunch of them. First of all is the tone of the film. I know Jimmy was trying to do this movie in a playful way, hence shooting the dialogue scenes in a basic way and with horrible, horrible voice acting. But.... I'd be better if the movie is not as playful, and strikes a tone equal to the one seen in the battle scenes. Another flaw is the fact that the setting is the desert. Which you can imagine, of course, being simply sand. And it is. Sand AND crates. Also, the first couple of scenes were obviously done when Jimmy didn't have a clear idea of what the movie was gonna be like, so they look horrible and outdated.

The other giant mistake is the ending. I'm not gonna reveal what the ending is, but it just doesn't work. Why? Because this movie doesn't really have a solid plot, so what happens in the end doesn't make sense when you take in account the middle parts of the movie, and even less when you take in account the introduction. Hopefully Jimmy will follow advice and change this. But it's good that there's an alternate ending, even if he decides to keep this one. At least we fans of 3dmm DVDs might have something to look out for.

The Shock Factor and Why This Movie Will Never Be The Best Movie Ever

You see, Jimmy has done a great thing, and a bad thing. His 2000 classic Litterbug 2 - Termination is the most amazing 3dmm movie ever. This was the work of a visionary, a complete masterpiece with great voice acting and some of the best action scenes ever done in 3dmm. The movie was impressive. Too impressive. For those of us that saw that movie, nothing will really be that impressive anymore. This was simply a masterpiece. When you see a movie like Ragtag, it's an extension of LB2. I'm placing Ragtag as my 3rd favorite 3dmm movie of all time, right after Men Of Seattle and Litterbug 2. But I'm sure that people that didn't see LB2 will be enamored by this great film that James Pozin is releasing this year.

In other words, download LB2 and don't watch it. Watch it back to back with this movie after it's released. Trust me. This movie will spawn a plethora of copycats, but if they're half as good as Ragtag, the community will fluorish again. I'm signing off and every morning that I wake up, i'll think "One day closer to the FINISHED Ragtag". Congratulations to James Pozin
